braid your hair, but wash it and put mousse in it first.
the hair will gradually dry while braided (may take a day) but then will be wavy.
I used to do this all the time when i was younger, and it works.

straighten your hair it can stay for a week. if you want to make your hair wavy you first have to have it straight then make it a braid leave it for a day then it will be wavy.

They make special "permanent" kits that are not permanent, but they will last through a hair washing or two. My oldest daughter would use something, I think it was called-"party curls", sorry do not remember the name. You check your local superstore or possibly a beauty supply store, it would be found around the regular permanent kits
