How do you make straight fine hair wavy without going to the salon?

I am a boy and have fine hair just past the ears. I kind of want that skater/wavy look to it. Some kids I have seen used to have straight hair and all of a sudden it is wavy. I have read stuff about towel dry, mousse, and blow dry but none of it works. Just lookin for some suggestions. thanks!

Buy some bobby pins, or get them from your mother or sister. (They are really cheap in the beauty isle at walgreens or your local drug store.) After you get out of the shower, gently towel dry your hair. Immediately after that, take thin strips of hair and twirl it until it winds up like a coil against your scalp. Take a bobby pin and pin it in place. (it may take two. Criss cross them to lock the tiny curl in place) Do this to your entire head. You can let them dry overnight but you should still apply some heat from a blow dryer b/c the curls will probably hold moisture. Remove the pins, your hair is too curly, brush it out with your fingers to calm the curls to waves.

These are called pin curls.

The only way I know of is called a "perm." Yes, men and women get them. They last 4-6 months. Best done by a pro.

Bed Head makes some excellent products for that messy look. Try Manipulator or Mastermind (or mix the two together)--rub it between your palms then mess up your hair.

One thing you might try is, if your hair long enough, is to braid it. Do this one evening -- wash your hair, towel dry it. Use some type of gel to increase the hold. Divide your hair into sections (part down center, then subdivide into quarters). Make thick braids for each section, then secure w a rubber band. Sleep overnight w the braids, and let dry. In the morning, undo the braids, and blow dry. The thicker the braids, the wider the curves in the waves.

Hope that helps.

Use conditioner, like Pantene, that adds volume to your hair, in other words, makes it look thicker and fuller. Mousse it and then take a large size curling iron to it. May sound a little sissy, but it works if you don't wnat to do the perm thing!

I did this last night. I have stick straight hair. Not only did this make my hair wavy but it made it much fuller too!

Braiding them and sleeping on them is good, but this takes that idea and multiplies it! I just happened upon it last night and this question today...how odd!

I washed my hair and put a styling product in it and blow dried it almost completely dry. I sectioned my hair and made a braid in each section. I then took rubber hairbands and in addition to using them to secure the ends of the braids I put one at the top of the braid close to my scalp. As I twisted it and wrapped the braid, I brought the band down about 1/4 of an inch or so. The band ended up pulling the braid up with the hair in between each twist. Each rubber band made four turns, thus creating four bends. I repeated this all the way down the end of the braid.

I then went to bed and had a pleasant nights sleep. In the morning I removed all of the hair bands and discovered waviness GALORE!

It worked beautifully. I hope this makes sense to you. Enjoy.

Ok, wash your hair before you go to bed, towel dry it, and go to bed without combing it. In the morning it'll look really messy, maybe too messy, but here comes the trick. Get a tigi bed head cream (not mousse or gel) and use a dime size blob all over your hair so that it smooths out the mess a little. Shake your hair and you'll have that messy wave look.

If you're hair is long enough. Make tiny braids with wet hair and secure them with elastic bands. Let it dry naturally in the braids. Try and sleep overnight in this style. In the morning undo the braids. You WILL have wavy hair.

THE BEST WAY to do it is to use hot rollers...get them at any target or walmart, i have conair rollers...get em anywhere between 1 1/2 iinch thick to 2 1/2 inches thick depending on how long your hair is...after drying your hair with your head flipped upside down, roll your whole head up in the rollers and leave em in for about 5 min....then use a lil bit of hair spray... i have his process down to about 15 min including drying and time to leave the rollers in..i do it every morning to give my flat fine hair a boost..it sounds complicated, and it is so easy..give it a shot! i have these....
