You did not mention how long is you hair. Anyway, thick and wavy hair is best cut in layers. Don't shred it to make it thin, you will ruin your hair. A layered cut starts at the chin and continue till the length you want. you will find that your hair much lighter and more volume. (something like jeniffer aniston, but your hair would much wavier and better)

Get something that shapes your face. I have very thick and curly hair. I cut it about mid-shoulder and I have just a touch of shape around my face. If you're willing, try some highlights or lowlights around the frame of your face. It really helpes define your hair.

Also, something I do for people with wavy/curly hair in your hand mix a good leave-in-conditioner (I like Parnevu for extra dry hair), a hair gel, and some hot water. Mix until combined and apply to hair with fingers, but don't over saturate it. This will help hold your hair withoug being sticky, and it'll allow it body and bounce. (Also great for super frizzy hair).
